Some Useful Definitions
Value f.o.b. Loading Point (of materials sold or used)
The dollar value of materials sold and/or used should be the value of the shipped product at the loading point,
whether it is located at the quarry or at a treatment point. If no value is placed on the material used, use the amount one might pay
for the material purchased at a quarry or plant in the area.
Transportation is to be reported separately. Please do not include it here.
Inventory
This refers to material that is stockpiled (removed from the quarry and not used or sold). The previous year's closing inventory must match the current year's opening inventory number. Please do not include any purchased material in the inventory amounts.
Used Versus Sold Material
"Used" refers to material used by the company for its own purposes. "Sold" is material purchased by customers.
Frequently Asked Questions
What will the collected information be used for?
The information is collected for all of Canada and then published by Natural Resources Canada. Individual company information is kept strictly confidential. The data are also available on our web site: Statistics
I send similar information to the province/territory. Is that not a duplication?
If you send similar information to a province or territory, please send us a copy of that information. We will contact you if we require further information.
Why am I required to complete two Commodity Schedules in the same calendar year?
When you receive two Commodity Schedules in the same year, they are for different reporting periods. The Annual Census of Mines, Quarries and Sand Pits (ACM) survey is used to provide actual data for the previous year ending December 31 and is due on March 15. The Preliminary Estimate survey is used to provide an estimate for the current year ending December 31 and has a due date of November 1.
